Happy Birthday Lindsay!
The worst part about going to bed at 5:30am is sleeping half the day away. By the time we finally were awake, showered, dressed, coated in makeup, and had our act together it must have been at least 1pm. Today (Friday May 31st) was Lindsay's 20th birthday, so we decided to go into the city to have a nice lunch and do some shopping. We have been riding our bikes to and from class and around town the past few days, so we decided it was time to give our sore legs a break and take the train, not to mention we haven't yet conquered riding a bike with a dress or skirt.
For lunch we went to a restaurant called Café G and sat outside on the patio. It was a beautiful sunny day and we all decided to order burgers. A general trend I've observed in restaurants is a laissez faire approach to serving. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is just different than what I'm used to. In the States, restaurants are more focused on business and rushing people in and out as fast as possible to make the most profit. Many places in Denmark and other parts of Europe take their time and allow you to sit and enjoy the meal, the weather, or the company you are with. There was a lot to enjoy and be thankful for, so I didn't mind the long wait. The one thing that was annoying was having to pay for water. I was so thirsty that for all I cared I would have drank out of a hose.
As the weather quickly began turning cold, we started heading home to change and get ready to go out again later. Walking to the train station we see a sign for reasonably priced drinks during happy hour. Just our luck, happy hour had just started. And after all it is Lindsay's birthday, so we had to stop. Before heading inside, we stood outside reading the sign one more time while contemplating our choices. Under "Happy Hour" in big letters this sign said "Out of Juice." It seemed rather odd that a bar would be advertising cocktails during happy hour if they were out of juice. It took us a minute to realize the bar was called "Out of Juice." I guess it was time to head inside and have Sex on the Beach, literally and figuratively, depends how you look at it.
That night I went to my first, and potentially last, karaoke bar. Sam's Bar was quite the adventure, filled with all sorts of people with all sorts of singing capabilities. My singing is limited to the shower and while I'm playing piano when no one is around, so no amount of alcohol would have encouraged me to jump on stage and belt out a tune, but I sure had fun watching others do it.
After the group split up, I thought the night was coming to a close, so I slowly started heading towards the train station with Lindsay close behind. Boy was I wrong, the night was simply getting started. We made it all the way down 3 flights of stairs at the M line only to realize we needed to be at the S line. As we are walking back up the stairs, we decide it would probably be easier and safer to stop and ask for directions to the S. After we stopped Kenneth at the train station to ask for directions, I couldn't peel Lindsay away from him. I did my best, but it was a fruitless effort. After a few minutes of idling, Kenneth's friends came over and told us to just join them at a bar down the street. I was hesitant at first until I heard tequila might be involved. I threw in my hat and decided to give in to another adventure. After making a short pitstop for some food, we went to LA Bar to have some tequila and dancing. I ended up hanging out with Kenneth's friend, Mads, for the majority of the night. Mads was a little shy at first, but like most people, after a few shots he was ready to dance. After Lindsay was falling asleep while leaning against Kenneth in the bar, we decided it was best to head home. Leaving the bar at 5am, Mads and Kenneth walked us home as the morning sun began peeking around the buildings.
